awards and achievements

N.T. Rama Rao Jr., popularly known as junior ntr and Tarak, is a Telugu film actor, dancer, and television host from India. In 1991, Rama Rao made his acting debut as a young child in the N. T. Rama Rao-written, -directed, and -starrer Brahmarshi Viswamitra. He later appeared in the mythological 1997 movie Ramayanam as the eponymous character, Rama. In 2001, Rama Rao made his big-screen acting debut in the underwhelming movie Ninnu Choodalani. With the coming-of-age action picture Student No.1, directed by S. S. Rajamouli, he experienced his first taste of success.

Although Subbu’s picture from the same year, Aadi, failed to engage audiences, it was a huge hit in 2002. Rama Rao earned the Andhra Pradesh government’s Nandi Special Jury Award for the jr ntr movie. Allari Ramudu and Naaga, the two subsequent jr ntr movies, both flopped. Simhadri, a 2003 action movie that turned out to be one of the year’s biggest hits, was their second project together. In the movie, Rama Rao plays Simhadri, a good-hearted man with a violent history.

Rama Rao performed a dual part in the Puri Jagannadh-directed film Andhrawala in 2005 for the first time. The movie failed to live up to the great expectations and received poor reviews. A respectable reaction was received for Samba, which was released the same year, but his succeeding, Naa Alludu, Narasimhudu, and Ashok, were a run of duds.

One of Rama Rao’s best performances is thought to have been in the 2006 movie Rakhi. Despite the film’s middling box office success, his portrayal of an innocent man who becomes a vigilante and the film’s climactic scene received great attention. For the socio-fantasy movie Yamadonga in 2007, Rama Rao worked with filmmaker S. S. Rajamouli for the third time. The actor underwent a total bodily makeover and lost excess weight for this ntr movie. The film was hailed for its original plot and acting and turned into one of the year’s biggest hits. For the movie, Rama Rao received his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu.

Jr NTR appeared in the commercially successful Adhurs and Brindavanam in 2010. Rama Rao appeared in other movies during the following few years, including Oosaravelli and Baadshah. Rama Rao was extremely disappointed with his subsequent films, Ramayya Vasthavayya and Rabhasa, which were box office duds and garnered lukewarm reviews from both the public and his supporters. He then made a pledge to his fans to try harder. In the action movie Temper, which was released in 2015, Rama Rao worked again with director Puri Jagannadh, giving the actor a much-needed comeback. He portrayed a dishonest police officer in the movie, whose life is changed after coming across a rape case. Jr NTR starred in Nannaku Prematho, a 2016 thriller-drama written and directed by Sukumar, for his historic 25th movie. The last 30 days of the father’s life were covered in the film, which focused on the emotional bond between a father and his kid.  The movie had an above-average domestic gross, but it did incredibly well abroad.  His film Janatha Garage, which was directed by Koratala Siva and featured Malayalam actor Mohanlal as a co-star, became the highest-grossing Tollywood production of that year, earning close to 140 crores. In the 2017 action movie Jai Lava Kusa, which also made over 100 crores, Rama Rao performed a triple role for the first time. He served as the show’s host for the inaugural season of Bigg Boss that same year.

For the action drama movie Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava, the actor, and director Trivikram collaborated in 2018. Rama Rao portrayed a young man in the movie who makes the decision to stop the carnage between two feuding villages. The movie outperformed Janatha Garage in terms of box office revenue, earning over 165 crores. Rama Rao made a comeback to television in 2021 as the host of the Telugu adaptation of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? called Evaru Meelo Koteeswarulu. In the historical action movie RRR, Rama Rao, who was working with filmmaker S. S. Rajamouli for the fourth time, portrayed the Indian revolutionary Komaram Bheem. The movie gained acclaim both in India and beyond, becoming a phenomenon on a worldwide scale. Rama Rao’s portrayal of Komaram Bheem has received praise from both the public and critics, and he is the only Asian actor to be listed among the 95th Academy Awards’ probable contenders for the Best Actor award.
